What does the Doggerland Foundation do?

Doggerland is a young and ambitious organization and our mission is to protect and restore the nature of the North Sea in order to contribute to solving the biodiversity and climate crisis. Our team consists of passionate professionals who work with researchers, policy makers, North Sea sectors and nature organizations to make the North Sea future-proof.

We start with the Doggersbank, a vast cross-border area in the middle of the North Sea, through a combination of strategies. We combat violations of nature conservation as laid down in laws and regulations with legal interventions ('Guard the red line'), we increase the ambition for nature restoration at sea with an ambitious vision and concrete plans for active nature restoration at the Doggersbank ('Unleash nature's potential'), and we change the system by representing nature's rights into decision-making ('Shifting perspectives').

Stichting Doggerland is a flat and flexible organization with short lines. Although Doggerland's employees work largely from home, we regularly have working days and consultation moments.

What will your role be?

As a marine ecologist, you will become part of our international coalition and will participate in the establishment, implementation and monitoring of the Rewilding Dogger Bank Seascape Program. You will work closely with our Program Manager Rewilding and are jointly responsible for developing and implementing our plans for nature restoration. With your ecological knowledge, you will support our lawyers in the lawsuits for better nature conservation. You are result-oriented and carry our vision to the network and ensure that it is translated into the plans.

You bring in ecological knowledge

You do supervised research

You work on active nature restoration

You translate research results into practice

You advise on policy and management plans.

You will work both independently and in a team and make a valuable contribution to the protection and recovery of the Doggersbank.

What do we hope to find in you?

You feel like a fish in water when planning, organizing and coordinating projects in the field of nature conservation and restoration at sea

You are not afraid of cold water when working with project teams in a coalition context and you monitor the progress, quality and costs of projects

You maintain contacts with experts and other stakeholders in a connecting way to keep the coalition partners hooked and result-oriented

You dare to take the lead in consulting and presenting the progress and involve your colleagues where necessary

You don't turn your hand around for co-writing project plans, reports and evaluations

You have a keen eye for current developments and know how to use it to increase the quality of the plans

Who are you?

You have a completed HBO or WO education in a relevant field, such as marine ecology, marine biology, oceanography, marine science, marine studies or similar

You have at least 3 years of demonstrable knowledge and experience in sea nature conservation and restoration

You are familiar with North Sea nature conservation and nature restoration policy, laws and regulations, North Sea ecosystem, nature restoration and conservation projects

You have a nose for new opportunities and new collaborations.

You have a good command of the Dutch and English language in speech and writing

You have an affinity with and heart for the North Sea

You feel fine working largely from home, and also like to join together days

You are willing to travel as much as possible in a sustainable way, both inside and outside the Netherlands
